The E-Accountability Foundation announces the

'A for Accountability' Award

to those who are willing to whistleblow unjust, misleading, or false actions and claims of the politico-educational complex in order to bring about educational reform in favor of children of all races, intellectual ability and economic status. They ask questions that need to be asked, such as "where is the money?" and "Why does it have to be this way?" and they never give up. These people have withstood adversity and have held those who seem not to believe in honesty, integrity and compassion accountable for their actions. The winners of our "A" work to expose wrong-doing not for themselves, but for others - total strangers - for the "Greater Good"of the community and, by their actions, exemplify courage and self-less passion. They are parent advocates. We salute you.

Winners of the "A":

Johnnie Mae Allen

ALERT: The Public is Asked to Be Involved in the Search For a New Superintendant For Evergreen Public Schools, Washington
We love this story, and hope that the rest of America will duplicate this process. Open government, transparency, and public involvement lead to long-term success as those involved in choosing the candidate are able to hold him or her accountable for the success or failure of policy implementation. Public input sought on superintendent search
By HOWARD BUCK, Columbian staff writer, The Columbian, January 6, 2005

Evergreen Public Schools is asking for help selecting its next superintendent: Yours.

A series of public forums are set for next week to allow school parents, patrons and others to identify the traits they want in a new leader, and what they see as the top issues facing the district.

It's part of a dialogue process launched by the Evergreen school board, which has hired executive search firm Huge, Hager & Associates to find a replacement for Superintendent Rick Melching, who will retire June 30 after nine years at the helm.

Each forum participant will be asked three questions: What are you looking for in a superintendent? What issues does Evergreen face in the next three to five years? What general qualities are desired in a new district leader?

One or both of the search firm's principals, both former school superintendents, will facilitate the forums.

They already have posted the job listing on a nationwide Web site aimed at educators. The ad touts the livability of the area and the 25,000-student district's local support.

The pair have interviewed school board members, and also will meet with other education and community leaders to discern district needs and the attitudes, skills and background that would make for a superior candidate.

"In the next few weeks, we'll be taking public input to identify the 'ideal' candidate," said board President Joan Skelton.

By late February or early March, the school board hopes to interview candidates, aiming for a hiring decision by April. Public input would again be sought during the winnowing stage. The new superintendent would start July 1.

Persons unable to attend any of the four forums are invited to direct comments by e-mailing supersearchegreen.wed net.edu.
