The E-Accountability Foundation announces the

'A for Accountability' Award

to those who are willing to whistleblow unjust, misleading, or false actions and claims of the politico-educational complex in order to bring about educational reform in favor of children of all races, intellectual ability and economic status. They ask questions that need to be asked, such as "where is the money?" and "Why does it have to be this way?" and they never give up. These people have withstood adversity and have held those who seem not to believe in honesty, integrity and compassion accountable for their actions. The winners of our "A" work to expose wrong-doing not for themselves, but for others - total strangers - for the "Greater Good"of the community and, by their actions, exemplify courage and self-less passion. They are parent advocates. We salute you.

Winners of the "A":

Johnnie Mae Allen
David Possner
Dee Alpert

Dell Gets an "A" For Re-cycling Old Computers and placing them in NYC Public Schools

November 22, 2004 09:10 AM US Eastern Timezone

New York City Schools Earn An `A' For Computer Recycling With Dell; Project Is Dell's Largest Recycling Effort to Date; 1,000 Systems Going To Dell TechKnow Program

Dell workers pack and remove computer equipment from the High School of Art and Design in New York City. The New York Department of Education is recycling more than 50,000 pieces of computer equipment at schools around the city into December. One thousand refurbished systems will go to underserved students in the NY City school system to promote 21st century technology skills. This represents the largest recycling effort for Dell since its program started in the early '90s.

ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 22, 2004--The New York City Department of Education (DoE) is working with Dell (NASDAQ:DELL) to recycle more than 50,000 outdated pieces of computer equipment. In the largest single recycling project since Dell first launched the service in July 2003, the company is removing computer equipment from nearly 900 schools and administrative locations for recycling or reuse. Dell will refurbish 1,000 of these systems so New York City schools can use them in its Dell TechKnow program.

The Dell Tech Know program partners with school districts, corporations and the community to enable "at-risk" or underserved middle school students an opportunity to earn a home computer and learn 21st century technology skills that promote self-esteem, academic success, and prepare them for opportunities in today's technology-driven world.

New York DoE, the nation's largest school district serving 1.1 million students, needed a recycling partner to help it reduce costs by retiring outdated equipment that is too costly to repair and store.

"We chose Dell for its end-to-end recycling capability, its asset management and repair services, so we could focus on our implementation of newer technology to serve our schools, teachers and students," said Charlie Niessner, chief information officer for the New York City DoE.

Through its Asset Recovery Services (ARS), Dell is packing and removing the outdated systems and auditing them to either be refurbished or recycled, helping to safeguard the environment, and meet governmental guidelines.

"Educational institutions are becoming more sophisticated and environmentally conscious of how they manage and maximize their technology investments," said Ken Hashman, vice president of Dell's Deployment Services. "We applaud the New York public schools and are working closely to provide easy-to-use, low-cost asset recovery services and educational programs to help their schools and students achieve their technology goals."

Today's announcement is an extension of an earlier multi-year hardware and managed services agreement between Dell and the New York City DoE that consolidated 700 technology vendors to one, reducing costs and simplifying technology management.

Asset Recovery Services (ARS) is a suite of services offered by DellTM that allows you to choose whether to recycle or resell your old or outdated computer equipment. Fast, affordable, and easy to use, ARS provides you with a safe and environmentally friendly method to recycle or dispose of your used computer equipment. This includes desktops, notebooks, servers, storage, networking, monitors, printers, projectors, and computer peripherals such as keyboards and mice.

Dell offers you two solutions for disposing of your used computer equipment:

Value Recovery - Recover value from used equipment. Value gained from the sale of the used equipment will be returned to you. (Note: The value of the equipment sold is "time bound"; i.e., the equipment to be sold in one month must be received at Dell's Asset Recovery Facilities in that same month.)

Recycling - Recycle used equipment that has no resale value. (Note: In general, used computer equipment over three years old has little or no resale value.)

Both services include transportation, flexible logistics, equipment disposition, and detailed security and environmental reports.

Why should I purchase Asset Recovery Services?

Data Security: Removes tags and labels from equipment and overwrites hard disks.
Decrease Costs: Eliminate cost of storing excess, outdated, or used computer equipment.
Increase Savings: Value Recovery may provide cash back for your computer equipment.
Proper Disposal: You may not be aware of how to properly dispose of old computer equipment in accordance with EPA guidelines.
Logistics: You may not have the logistics and disposition infrastructure in place to properly manage the recycling or resale of your old computer equipment.
Accountability: Provides a single point of contact, end-to-end visibility, and detailed data security and environmental reports.
Decrease Hassle: Frees you to focus on your core business.

What Logistics Services are available?

Integrated transportation and flexible logistics allow you to choose your exact level of recovery support. ARS offers two options for handling the packaging and transportation of your computer equipment.

Customer Pre-Packed

Customer packs equipment
Single location pickup
No program management from Dell

Pre-packed box logistics: For 1-9 systems. Dell will send you a kit containing instructions and shipping air bills. After boxing your equipment you can schedule a pickup at www.airborne.com or by calling 1-800-AIRBORNE.

Pre-packed pallet logistics: For 10 or more systems. Dell's freight vendor will contact you 3 to 5 days after order placement to schedule a pickup. You are responsible for palletizing your equipment.

Program Managed

Dell gathers and packs equipment
Multiple location pickup
Program Manager oversight
Other special logistics on custom bid basis

What Reporting information is included?

Dell addresses your data security and environmental recycling concerns through a detailed and accurate reporting process. You will be sent two reports upon completion of your equipment's resale or recycling.

Settlement Report - Specifically lists each piece of resold hardware's resale value and documents any recycled equipment.

Certificate of Disposal* - Verifies that hard disks were overwritten with an automated script. Inoperable disks are shredded. Also verifies that any recycling was done in accordance with EPA guidelines.

How do Asset Recovery Services help me be "environmentally friendly"?

By purchasing Asset Recovery Services, your old or used equipment is recycled or resold, which helps keep environmentally sensitive materials out of landfills, enables materials to be recycled or reused, and helps conserve natural resources.

*Note: No data removal process leaves a hard drive or computer as free from residual data as a new product. Dell makes no recommendations regarding the customer's security needs or representations regarding the effectiveness of one method of data removal over another. It is the customer's responsibility to protect any confidential or sensitive information contained on its hard drives recovered by Dell.
