Positive Behavioral Supports For schools
There is another way to 'control' kids in the classroom: positive behavioral support. These techniques involve, however, more work than just sending in the police or throwing the child out of the classroom or school. Experts may have to be found, paid for consulting, and involved in the life of the school, all events that many school administrators simply don't want. But to many people, long term results can only happen through positive, rather than negative policies.
PBS Practices Applying Positive Behavioral Support and Functional Behavioral Assessment in Schools PBS Practices are brief fact sheets that describe effective practices in Positive Behavior Support. Each Practice includes a rationale, overview, examples, issues and needs, and frequently-asked questions on a designated topic. The purpose of the series on PBS Practices is to provide information about important elements of positive behavior support. PBS Practices are not specific recommendations for implementation, and they should always be considered within the larger context of planning, assessment and comprehensive support. PBS Practices are currently available as pdf files. Some files are also available as HTML.
