US Senate Approves D.C. School Choice Program
![]()
More than 1 month after the House of Representatives gave approval for Washington D.C. schoolchildren to be given $13 million annually to fund private tuition scholarships, the Senate has also approved the program.
"This is a truly historic development," said Children First America President John Kirtley. "What's most heartening about it is that it was primarily a locally driven measure, with the support of local leaders such as Mayor [Anthony] Williams, Councilman [Kevin] Chavous and School Board President [Peggy] Cooper-Cafritz, not to mention the legions of parents who demanded choices for their children's education. That, along with bipartisan support at the federal level, helped make this a reality." |
